I founded our shop All Precision Collision Repair to give consumers a choice in how their cars are fixed and provide a better customer experience. There are allot of things we do differently than the big chain shops in our area. We treat every vehicle we work on like it was our own. The larger chain shops have so much pressure from Insurance companies to get cars in and out they lose sight of who their customer really is. This causes shops and employees to cut corners on the cars repairs and short change the customer in the end.
As a former body technician myself I know how easy it can be to overlook important details when repairing complicated vehicles and the electronics and safety systems on these vehicles. Vehicles are allot different now than they were ten years ago. The use of exotic materials magnesium, carbon fiber, aluminum and plastics are spread through the whole vehicle. Electronics control everything from airbags to your radio and all systems in between. We stay current on all training necessary to safely perform repairs on today's modern vehicles. We make sure we use tried and proven materials and equipment on our repairs, not the cheapest but the best.
No-one can understand the pressure to perform quick and cheap auto body repairs more than I can. 25 years of working for Insurance recommended repair shops taught me well of what insurers expect for referring work to these shops. I have heard insurance personnel tell customers some very strong lies to steer customers away from using independent auto body shops. The reason being they want complete control of the parts used, rentals and labor. Because of this conundrum shops are forced to hire technicians that go along with this repair mentality. They do not want high quality repairs they want cheap repairs period. As with any business there are some employees that are just flat greedy! Money over quality. Over the years I have worked with allot of technicians with this mentality. Lets just say an abundance of shortcuts were taken. All at the unsuspecting customers expense. Not only is this system unscrupulous but it breeds fraud. I inspect cars for customers that notice things wrong with their repairs, some of the things I have uncovered in this process has caused me allot of concern. Most of the issues were covered up by shiny paint and unseen by the untrained eye.
When I say that our shop is Pro Consumer it means we work for our customer and not directly for the insurer involved in the claim. The insurers are only supposed to pay for the claim not dictate how the vehicle is repaired. It is this co mingling of options that causes most of the problems I see in my post repair inspections. Insurers love anything that will save them money on the pay out of the claim. Non Factory parts, Junkyard parts and discount labor. I have had to explain the repair process's necessary to fix a vehicle many times to insurance personnel that really should know the proper procedures. I sometimes wonder if they are incompetent or just plain dumb.
